I’m not a big Dirty Projectors fan. Somewhere in the land of “competing polyrhythms” and “off-kilter arrangements and vocal bleats” the majority of his songs lose any sort of intimacy or emotion for me, and become just an exercise in songwriting. 

That said, this cover is a stunner. Dave Longstreth (Dirty Projectors mastermind) tinges his voice with a Dylan-esque delivery  without coming across as a bad parody (All too easy in Dylan covers).  Meanwhile Amber Coffman and Angel Deradorrian provide both lush harmonies and a doubled vocal track that drifts along in a lazy manner that manages to make it it even more charming.

Who knows, maybe it’s true that sometimes in capturing the best of others, we capture the best in ourselves.
